Otengei Omuudu Samson

Samson is currently an Assoc. Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Head of Department – Leisure, Events and Hospitality Management, in the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Kampala, Uganda. A holder of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Hospitality Management (PhD) of Makerere University, a MSc. Hospitality and Tourism Management – Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom (UK), a Bachelor of Catering and Hotel Management (BCHM) of Makerere, University, and a Uganda Diploma in Hotel and Institutional Catering (UDHIC) – College of Business Studies [NCBS], Kampala, Uganda. I have also undertaken a short course on Pedagogy/Teaching methodologies for Higher Institutions of Learning at School of Education, Makerere University. Samson has been privileged to work at almost all levels of organizational hierarchy including but not limited to operational, mid-management, senior management, but also at policy level. I have headed departments, faculty, administrative units, and chaired committees in many organizations, churches, tertiary institutions and universities as well as managing personal private investments. I have been a team leader for several hospitality and tourism course units as well as being a member of various academic committees including the Higher Degrees Committee. I have been a lead supervisor for very many post graduate and undergraduate students to completion, including providing academic leadership to junior staff in the hospitality and tourism field. I have taught, facilitated, guided, helped and conducted trainings in various organizations, government departments, vocational centers, universities and other institutions of higher learning. Samson has served as an internal and external examiner in a number of tertiary institutions and universities. I am also a member of various executive committees, councils and various international associations. Samson has attended several, local and international seminars, summer schools, short courses, conferences, workshops, conventions and meetings, both academic and non-academic.  My research interest is on firm internationalization, service innovation, culinary arts, human resource competence and influences on hospitality and tourism industry performance in Africa. I am the Principal author of, “African Cuisine; History and Practice”, a book that brings Africa together and which won a Global Award (Africa’s Best Culinary Text 2015) in Yantai, China. Samson has authored and co-authored a number of articles and others are under review with various journals.
