Irregularities Committee

The irregularities committee is a committee of the academic board of Makerere University Business School appointed by the Principal who is the chairperson of the academic board. 
 

Committee Mandate

The committee’s mandate involves hearing and passing judgement on the irregularities committed during the end of semester final examinations. The victims are those students who violate the rule governing examination practices for Makerere University and MUBS. The malpractices are mainly derived from the rules on examination malpractices and irregularities: Common malpractices include but not limited to the following;

Categories of examination , as sampled below

  1. Enter the examination room later than half an hour after the examination has commenced.
  2. Leave the examination room earlier than half an hour after the examination has commenced except in emergencies with the express permission of the Invigilator.
  3. Leave the examination room during the last ten minutes of the examination except in case of emergency.
  4. Register for courses exceeding the maximum semester load of 28 credit units.
  5. Not registered on the examination attendance list.
  6. Forgery of examination documents related to examinations, such as; forged examination permits, financial statements, provisional examination permits that are tampered with such as; altered expiry date, added courses and forged approval and signature of the University officials.
  7. Sit for examinations without authority or permission.
  8. Unauthorized material including but not limited to, plain papers, books, condensed
  9. summarized notes on a piece of paper/handkerchief/body parts, and any recording apparatus or unauthorized electronic equipment such as mobile phones, smart watches.
  10. Access to unauthorized material when permitted to briefly move out of the examination rooms to use the washrooms.
  11. Destroying evidence or exhibit related to an alleged examination malpractice and irregularity.
  12. Sit for examinations not set for a students programme of study, mainly resulting from entering an examination room not scheduled for your programme of study.
  13. Write false information on the answer booklets and examination attendance lists, such as alter or write wrong registration and student numbers with the intention of hiding your identity.
  14. Write on the question paper communicate, copy, exchange answers, aid to copy
  15. Negligently expose answers for other students to copy.
  16. Same answers in students answer booklets.
  17. Bribe or attempt to bribe a University official in relation to an alleged examination malpractice.
  18. Impersonate another student to sit examinations for him/her.
  19. Procure or induce another student or person to sit for you examinations.
  20. Indulge in any disruptive conduct, including but not limited to; shouting, assault of another student, using abusive or threatening language, destruction of University property or property of another student.
  21. Neglect, omit or in any way fail to follow lawful instructions or orders issued by the Invigilator.
  22. Assault, insult, harass or threaten the Invigilator or any University official involved in the conduct of the examination.
  23. Assist another student to use your examination permit to sit for examinations.
  24. Take out of the examination room an answer booklet whether used or not used.
  25. Delete answers from computers especially during practical examinations.
  26. Submit work not prepared by yourself or plagiarize the work of any other student.
  27. Pay or procure a member of staff or non-member of staff to alter examination results.
  28. Import into the examination room, in person or by an agent, a pre-prepared answer script.
  29. Substitute an answer script prepared outside the examination room for the one already submitted to the Invigilator or Examiner.
  30. Smuggle or attempt to smuggle answer booklet out of the examination room having signed on the examination attendance list and later claim that your marks are missing.
  31. Tear off a piece from the question paper and answer booklet.
  32. Possess more than one answer booklet, when none is fully utilized.
  33. Sit for an examination more than once during the same semester or examination period.
  34. Bring any firearm or potentially dangerous weapons in the examination room or its surrounding and don’t use the firearms or any potentially dangerous weapon with the purpose to intimate, threaten or otherwise deter investigations into any examination malpractice.
