INTRODUCTION
This Programme was approved by Senate in 2002 as a stand-alone degree programme. The Programme was reviewed because of Employer demand in the skills that are expected of a Graduate of Bachelor of Business Computing and benchmarking from other Universities offering similar programmes.
1.1 Background
The program was previously being offered as Bachelor of Business Computing approved by Senate in 2002 as stand-alone degree program. The program was split from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program which was one of the options in the BBA program. The BBC program was last reviewed in 2007 and currently it is being submitted as Bachelor of Business Computing (BBC) in the current review. The program was previously running as both Day and Evening. In the current review, the program runs on both sessions of Day and Evening.
For the last ten years, the business computing programme has not been reviewed and yet a lot of changes have taken place in the technology industry where this programme is grounded. These notable changes include but not limited to cloud computing, green computing, social media, cloud sourcing, big data and analytics. These new technologies have drastically changed the way businesses operate thus dire need to tailor the content to the current needs of the industry.
1.2 Programme Objectives
The general objective of this programme is;
- To empower students with competences, knowledge and abilities to use ICT tosolve business challenges
- To strike a balance between theory and real-world practice in computing such that graduates of the programme can create the best computing solutions to solve business needs in the industry
1.3 Programme Specific Objectives
The specific objectives of the programme are to:
- Evaluate business processes, design and develop software solutions to address complex business problems and opportunities
- Analyse existing systems, design, develop and manage enterprise level information systems
- Apply advanced programming techniques, software patterns in the development of enterprise level systems
- Design, implement and manage computer networks
- Setup and administer network and server systems
- Apply scientific research principles in researching solutions to existing and new problems
- Apply mathematical concepts in business problems solving
- Communicate effectively in presenting technical ideas, writing business plans and proposals
