Department of Accounting

The Department of Accounting is under the Faculty of Commerce, the oldest and founding faculty of Makerere University Business School. The Dept was established in 1997, it remains focused at providing a solid accounting foundation for business in the region. The Dept is celebrated for its active research output for years, contributing to academic knowledge and practical applications in financial reporting, auditing, and taxation. The carefully selected staff members in the accounting department are highly qualified. Most hold the accounting professional qualifications as well as the advanced degrees including the MSc, MBA and the PhDs in accounting, finance, and related fields. They are engaged in top notch research, consultancy, policy development, and with diverse records of unmatched publications. These outputs as well as the continuous improvement philosophy continue to amplify the department’s reputation of academic excellence and practical relevance. The Department of Accounting houses the Diploma in Accounting and Finance, the Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Science in Accounting & Finance programs. The facilitators are highly experienced facilitators and engaged in supervising the account and finance related PhDs. The Dept delivers knowledge through well-established teaching methods that combine theoretical frameworks with practical focus. Therefore, our students are well prepared for the dynamic field of commerce and accounting. The department members possess extensive industry experience and academic expertise, enabling them to provide mentorship and real-world insights. This approach enhances the quality of education and ensures that graduates are equipped with the necessary competencies to excel in their careers.
